Under minimal supervision, the Transportation Logistics Analyst is responsible for the administration and cost management of railroad freight charges (in relation to applicable railroad tariff rules) incurred via empty movement of GATX’s North American owned railcar and locomotive fleet. The Analyst will also ensure, through account management, that GATX remains in good credit standing with each rail carrier to ensure normal operations for empty movement of the owned or managed railcar and locomotive fleet.

 

Qualified candidates who are currently Wells Fargo Rail employees will be given priority consideration over other external applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audit and reconciliation of railroad freight charges on GATX North American railcar and locomotive fleet for line-haul and switch charges.
  • Administer approved and declined freight charges.
  • Identify and setup contractual customer re-billable freight charges with the finance billing group for invoicing.
  • Maintain GATX credit terms through account management of all open bills paid within terms and resolution of disputed bills removed from GATX.
  • Report and analyze monthly expenses and for optimization of freight savings across the rail and locomotive fleets.
  • Provide support for Commercial Group within Transportation Services on the following tasks:
    • Review and quote empty freight pricing for new assignment or release events as requested by fleet and sales.
    • Provide logistical support for delayed or misrouted car movements across North American rail network.
    • Issue Bill of Ladings (waybills) or diversion for GATX responsible empty freight movements as needed.
    • Give guidance and training to GATX staff and lessees on rail logistics and regulations.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly & quarterly management freight expense report for GATX's North American Fleet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years in the transportation industry with a shipper, railroad, or leasing company.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products (e.g. Power BI/Excel/etc.).
  • General understanding of North American rail network and functional interline characteristics of railroad tariffs including switching and, line-haul for freight equipment. In addition, familiar with Code of Car Hire Rules and Code of Car Service Rules under AAR Circular OT-10.
  • Knowledge of SAP.

This is a hybrid position which will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the year.

Min

USD $68,600.00/Yr.

Max

USD $75,200.00/Yr.

 

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.

 

This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
