The Reliability Engineer will support GATX engineering’s data analytics and reliability analysis efforts. This position will also leverage data analysis to influence railroads, government and industry rule-making authorities toward decisions in the business interest of GATX. The position is expected to significantly impact Safety, Quality, Delivery and Costs objectives with these efforts.

 

Qualified candidates who are currently Wells Fargo Rail employees will be given priority consideration over other external applicants.

Responsibilities

Optimize the reliability of life-cycle maintenance on the GATX rail fleet.

  • Analyze and track all key fleet performance indicators to drive strategic improvement to GATX SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost)
  • Master GATX systems to perform data queries, mining and retrieval
  • Utilize Weibull++ and other reliability software to manage GATX reliability program
  • Optimize the schedule and standard work for planned maintenance events.
  • Prevent unplanned maintenance events
  • Standardize best-performing railcar components and equipment designs.
  • Set and monitor quantitative metrics for fleet reliability goals.
  • Support implementation of reliability benefits in GATX instructions, specifications, reporting, computer systems, policies, and processes.

Support GATX Operations Team's strategic initiatives with data analysis and implementation.

  • Develop and maintain reliability reports and dashboards using PowerBI
  • Measure the effectiveness of engineering programs for impact on SQDC.
  • Support engineering to maximize reliability in maintenance instructions.
  • Eliminate systemic defects to maintenance quality with Quality Assurance.
  • Reduce GATX spending on railroad maintenance.
  • Support Best Practice teams on measurable impact to SQDC.
  • Manage implementation of initiatives, forming and leading cross-functional teams when needed.

Support GATX Commercial Team with fleet performance data analysis.

  • Analyze maintenance cost trends.
  • Market the full-service lease package with presentable data analysis.
  • Provide analyses to customers in order to support qualification intervals, provide comparative analyses on components, etc.

Influence government and industry rule-making authorities toward the best interest of GATX and support regulatory requests.

  • Influence regulatory outcomes with reliable data metrics, industry committee participation, and task group leadership.
  • Support Service Reliability Assessments requests from FRA
  • Provide authorities with impact forecasts of proposed rule changes.
  • Implement opportunities for rule and regulation exemptions for GATX.
  • Validate effectiveness of GATX tank car qualification and remediation programs with FRA officials.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or other technical discipline
  • Advanced level skills in Microsoft Excel and Power BI
  • Familiarity with statistics and formal methods of data analysis
  • Certification in reliability engineering data analysis and modeling is a plus
  • Experience with Rail car design and repair is a plus
  • Familiarity with Rail car rules and regulations is a plus
  • Minimal travel to maintenance facilities and industry committee meetings will be required
  • Must be physically able to climb on, inside, or under rail cars

This is a hybrid position that will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the year.

As of the post date, the salary range for this position is:

Min

USD $78,800.00/Yr.

Max

USD $111,000.00/Yr.

 

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.

 

This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
