The Maintenance Auditor (“MA”) is responsible for the daily management of railcar repair service events in the North American maintenance network. This position ensures adherence to GATX’s estimation guidelines and monitors costs + quality, minimizes cycle time and updates car status while owning key relationships with Service Delivery and Fleet Portfolio Management pertaining to order activity and car type cost performance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and actively participate in the effective, efficient processing of railcar repairs from the time of service notification through completion of repairs and invoice approval.  This includes managing specific customer order cars and may entail running / analyzing various activity reports (e.g. Shop Scheduler).
  • Work with the maintenance providers to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of GATX Rail’s requirements including maintenance guidelines, pricing, on-time delivery, acceptable cycle time and quality.
  • Monitor cars to ensure that required maintenance is performed in accordance with established GATX Rail, customer and regulatory requirements and that repairs are priced per contracted or ‘market’ rates, as applicable.  This role will monitor their fleets/shops to ensure the following:
    • Cars are appropriately prioritized in shop mix.
    • Work content adheres to GATX estimation guidelines.
    • Estimates are priced appropriately.
    • Proper identification of customer liability.
    • PODs are set timely and accurately.
    • Car status is shepherded effectively and communicated timely.
    • Car costs meet GATX expectations. 
  • Review all pertinent Billing Repair Card estimates to ensure that repairs are performed to fulfill shopping reasons and customer requirements.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the Fleet Maintenance Management department and provide maintenance expertise to members of the Commercial organization including Customer Service, Fleet Execution and Fleet Portfolio Management.

This role will work closely with Fleet Portfolio Managers (FPMs) to closely monitor the cost performance of particular car types, ensure that maintenance cost profiles are adhered to and provide any pricing model adjustment recommendations to the Manager, Fleet Maintenance Management.  The incumbent will also work closely with Customer Service Reps to shepherd permanent cars and Fleet Order Managers to understand the new assignment requirements for their assigned fleets, ensure shops understand delivery requirements and work to meet Fleet POD commitments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree with emphasis on business management/operations management, industrial technology or engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of railcar inspection experience or experience within railcar maintenance discipline.
  • Extensive technical / railcar repair knowledge including, but not limited to, regulatory requirements associated with the FRA and AAR as well as GATX Rail requirements.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with or the ability to learn, Microsoft Office, PowerBI, Maintenance Management System (MMS), Service Event Management (SEM), GATX ShopPortal, Railinc, and GATX Tails.

Min

USD $78,800.00/Yr.

Max

USD $98,000.00/Yr.

 

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.

 

This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
