The Sr. Maintenance Logistics Analyst supports the allocation of GATX-owned and foreign cars into the GATX maintenance network including owned shops, contract shops, storage and direct-to-scrap locations. Specifically, this role will share network loading responsibilities with the Director, Maintenance Logistics. The role supports the maintenance of GATX data specific to contracts and administration for all contract shops, storage and direct-to-scrap providers. In allocating cars within the network, the role does so in support of the Rail North America strategy and safety, quality, deliver and cost (SQDC) objectives for the maintenance of GATX and foreign rail cars throughout the network.

Responsibilities

Network Loading

  • Assist Director, Maintenance Logistics in day-to-day network loading and support Operations leadership in managing the flow of cars (GATX-owned & foreign) into the GATX maintenance network in support of strategic SQDC objectives of the GATX Rail North America. Participate and serve as back up in leading a weekly network loading meeting with owned shops to ensure the flow of cars into and out of all shops remain in balance.
  • Collaborate with Fleet Portfolio Management and Fleet Order Management to efficiently manage lease assignment and release activity.
  • Minimize costs to GATX for freight, demurrage and maintenance through analyzing optimal shop to send GATX-owned cars.
  • Seek to improve data availability and processes to support network loading. Seek to improve documentation of shopping decisions and criteria to ensure network loading responsibility is transferable.
  • Provide Director, Maintenance Logistics support in developing network-wide annual budgets and demand / supply forecasting models, as well as business cases for capital investments within the maintenance network.

Contract Shop Management

  • Support the Director, Maintenance Logistics in managing the supply of contracted maintenance required to meet the demand for repair that is not fulfilled by the GATX owned maintenance network supply. Maintain all documents and data specific to contract maintenance in appropriate GATX databases.
  • Support the VP, Operations Management and the Director, Maintenance Logistics in leveraging existing data and developing new data reports in PowerBI where needed to adequately monitor the performance of the contracted maintenance network from an SQDC perspective. Support the development of a periodic scorecard / review process that can be leveraged to manage the contracted maintenance relationship. Conduct analyses of data as required.
  • Analyze significant cost variances (by car and event type) within the GATX owned and contract shop network.
  • Support the preparation of the annual contracted maintenance budget.

Storage and Direct-to-Scrap Network Management

  • Support the management of the storage network and GATX idle fleet logistics. Maintain all documents and data specific to contract maintenance in appropriate GATX databases.
  • Assist with managing a direct to scrap location network. Complete all due diligence to ensure vendor meets all requirements, maintain vendor contracts, and maintain data regarding direct to scrap as required, including insurance certificates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of rail logistics and/or railcar repair preferred.
  • Strong knowledge in developing analytical models and analyzing data.
  • Experience developing or maintaining data reporting in PowerBI preferred.
  • Experience in developing and managing databases.
  • Minimal travel required (<10%)

This is a hybrid position that will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the year.

As of the post date, the salary range for this position is:

Min

USD $68,600.00/Yr.

Max

USD $86,000.00/Yr.

 

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.

 

This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
