The Maintenance Field Inspector shall be asked to perform railcar inspections on various rail car types for end of lease, secondary market sale and purchase and for legal matters. In addition, the Maintenance Field Inspector may be also be asked to perform visits to GATX owned and contract repair maintenance facilities and mobile repair units (MRUs) to qualify shops to perform maintenance activities on GATX-owned rail cars, to evaluate the quality of railcar maintenance repairs, and to review the shop’s compliance with GATX’s quality standard, cost agreements and reporting requirements.

 

Qualified candidates who are currently Wells Fargo Rail employees will be given priority consideration over other external applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Visit/Audit (remote or onsite) owned and contract Repair facilities and MRU’s to ensure that required maintenance is performed in accordance with pre-established GATX Rail and regulatory requirements. Ensure that proper repair methods are utilized resulting in cost-efficient repairs while also ensuring that quality workmanship is performed.
  • Perform field inspections of railcars being returned at end of lease from customers. Inspect/ serve as a liaison during new assignment leases, as well as inspect potential fleet acquisition cars assessing suitability of fleets.

  • Work with owned shops and contract shops providers to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of GATX Rail’s requirements, including maintenance guidelines, pricing, throughput and quality.
  • Serve as the Rail car technical expert in the Maintenance Procurement, Quality and Engineering department, and as such provide maintenance expertise and support to the GATX Rail organization.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree in business or engineering preferred.
  • NDT MT, PT, LT, UTT, VT experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years if rail car inspection/QA and repair experience.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, procedure manuals and have proven mechanical aptitude.
  • Extensive technical and fleet rail car knowledge.
  • Extensive FRA and AAR knowledge; GATX Rail Specifications knowledge strongly preferred.

Min

USD $68,600.00/Yr.

Max

USD $86,000.00/Yr.

 

This role may be eligible to participate in the Company’s short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.

 

This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
